The Corps of Sponsors
The UP Corps of Sponsors is an organization of female students of the University of the Philippines under the Department of Military Science and Tactics Each member of the COS has undergone a stringent selection process that begins with the nomination period. Possible nominees are approached by cadet officers, cadets, or incumbent sponsors and are invited to join. The nominee then undergoes two levels of panel interviews -- initially with the member of both the Corps of Sponsors and the officers of the Corps of Cadets then by the senior officials of the Department. Starting off as muses of unit commanders, the sponsors' role evolved to being the primary civic action arm of the Department of Military Science and Tactics. They also serve as counterbalance to the strict discipline put among cadets by their respective cadet officers. Unlike before, sponsors are assigned to the training units and not to individual cadet officers. Being a sponsor is not all beauty and brains. Each member of the Corps undergo a similar training regimen as the cadets. They also learn to run, crawl, shoot, jump off perfectly built towers, and answer to calls for emergency. Being a sponsor is not all pomp but it is also an adventure. back to top
